5 Healthy Habits to Jumpstart the Spring Season
Had your fill of stay-at-home winter days and COVID-19 lockdowns?
Fortunately, the weather is getting better and more people are getting vaccinated.
Ready to jumpstart the spring season? Adopt these 5 healthy habits for spring.
1. Sit less, move more
Aim for at least 20 minutes of exercise per day. Wake up a little early and make it happen. Go for a walk, jog or run. Ride a bike. Get to the gym. Or dust off your exercise bike or treadmill and put it to work. Even a little exercise can improve your mood AND your health.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables
How’s your diet? Spring is a great time to improve your health eating habits.
Did you know?...
- Only 12 percent of adults eat enough fruit.
- Just 9 percent of adults eat enough vegetables, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Fresh fruits are perfect for breakfast and go well with meals. Fruit also works well mixed with yogurt, cottage cheese or added to a salad.
To add more vegetables to your diet, stock up on fresh produce at the grocery store. Or pick your favorite MagicKitchen.com meals all made from fresh ingredients.
3. Boost vitamin D levels
If you live in the northern hemisphere and/or spend a lot of time indoors, especially during the winter, chances are pretty good you have low vitamin D levels.
When your skin is exposed to direct sunlight, your body produces vitamin D. Spending a little more time in the sun can help. So can taking a vitamin D supplement.
Not sure about your vitamin D levels? Ask your doctor for a blood test.
4. Boost motivation with a new outfit
Buy some new workout clothes. There, we said it. It might sound trivial. But workout clothes that make you feel good and look good may be just the motivation you need to help you sit less and move more.
5. Practice self care
This might be as simple as carving out some alone time (without work, kids, media, etc.) to clear your head.
But self-care can also include massage therapy, getting a chiropractic adjustment, or even treating yourself to a new haircut, pedicure, or manicure. You can also boost your health and happiness by making time to do things you enjoy.
