Meal Plans May Help Seniors Cope

Meal Plans for Seniors

As you get older, eating healthy foods and getting regular exercise is still just as important in your senior years as when you were younger. However, that’s easier said than done. Consider some sobering statistics about seniors and nutrition in the United States, from the National Institutes of Health.

  • 15 to 50 percent of seniors don’t eat enough calories or healthy foods.
  • 30 percent of seniors skip at least one meal a day.
  • 16 percent of seniors eat less than 1,000 calories a day.

Why do so many seniors struggle with eating healthy and getting enough calories? It’s not a simple answer. In fact there are many reasons elder adults have a hard time eating well as they age such as:

  • Health problems
  • Side effects of medication
  • Income limitations
  • Dietary restrictions
  • Depression and loneliness
  • Oral health issues
  • Physical limitations
  • Forgetfulness

But we’re here to change that. In fact, providing seniors with healthy meals was the starting point for more than a decade ago. Since then, we’ve delivered thousands of healthy meals made from fresh ingredients to elder adults around the country. And it’s making a difference. Meal plans may help seniors cope with aging. Here’s what one customer said:

“I order these foods for my father,” customer Addie B. said. “He is so happy with them and thankful. I am very grateful there is such a company as yours. My father is 81 and healthy but would rather not eat or just grab something unhealthy, than cooking a healthy meal. Thank you for what you all do.”

If you’re worried about your own aging parents, or an elder adult, eating healthy foods, choosing meals from our Senior Special Diet menu can make it a lot easier for them to get the nutrition they need. And there’s lots to choose from like Beef Stew, Carrots, and Mashed Potatoes, Shrimp & Vegetable Linguine, Vegetable Caponata with Orzo & Spinach, and many others.

Our senior customers have also told us, meals have helped make it a lot easier for them to eat healthy when they might otherwise skip a meal or eat fast food.

I just finished my first meal from, and it was delicious,” says Joyce W. “I'm looking forward to the others I have on hand. I am 90 years old and in frail health, so having these meals on hand is certainly a blessing.”
